Town of St. Agatha



St. Agatha, or St. Agathe to the locals, is nicknamed “The Prettiest Town South of the Border.” (Canadian border that is) with its scenic vistas and views of Long Lake. St. Agatha has a year-round resident population of approximately 750 with seasonal increases in both summer and winter as the town is home to Long Lake, a 6,000 acre and 12-mile-long body of water, whose shores extend to St. Agatha, Sinclair, Madawaska, Grand Isle and Van Buren. It is the is the deepest and northernmost of the Fish River Chain of Lakes reaching a depth of approximately 163 feet deep. Long Lake itself provides a good habitat for sport fishing for brook trout, rainbow smelt and landlocked salmon.

St. Agatha and Long Lake attract many tourists and part-time residents each year offering many recreational opportunities such as two boat launching facilities, a fitness center, tennis courts, marina, public beach and picnic area, softball and soccer fields and a playground. 

Farming, lumber and outdoor recreation have historically been the base of St. Agatha’s local economy.
